The Conference is hosted by the University of Wolverhampton
The conference will take place on the edge of beautiful, secluded, historic rural Shropshire, in the heart of the UK, with a wide variety of opportunities for relaxation and sight-seeing. Shropshire is typical of the English Shires.
The Ironbridge Gorge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and acknowledged as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The venue for the conference and much of the accommodation is the Park Inn, Telford, Shropshire. A range of other accommodation is available, from budget accommodation, to rooms at the University at Telford, to a 16th century Manor House , to a Golf and Country Club overlooking the historic Ironbridge Gorge.
Social Programme
Madeley Court - Tuesday 7 October 2008 Madeley Court is a 16th century building steeped in history offering the ambience of a beautiful Manor House in countryside surroundings with resplendent stylish furnishings and a lakeside view. The welcome reception will be held in the Old Mill and offers the chance to meet with old faces over a drink and snacks and meet the mLearn 2008 Conference Team. Please note this is a free event however tickets are limited so you will need to book early - details will be on the registration page when you book along with an indication as to how many places are still avaliable.
Enginuity - Wednesday 8 October 2008 Ironbridge, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution boasts ten award winning museums which celebrate the history of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. As our conference is part of the new technological revolution it seemed natural that we returned to such an important location.
The first of the conference dinners will be held on Wednesday 8 October 2008 in the old Engine Room of Enginuity, an interactive science museum. Guests will have the opportunity to explore Enginuity whilst enjoying a pre-dinner drink before moving through to the Engine Shed for dinner. Entertainment will include a welcome from the renowned Iron Men and Severn Gilders (www.ironmenandseverngilders.org), a local Morris Dancing group and music will be provided throughout dinner by Nathan and Quinn (www.the-badgers.co.uk), who perform a range of music from traditional English folk songs to more contemporary numbers.
The RAF Royal Air Force Museum at Cosford, Shropshire is home to over 70 aircraft and houses warplanes and missiles. The newly opened Cold War Museum, (the only permanent exhibition of its kind In Europe) offers delegates a chance to see what life was really like behind the Iron Curtain.
The evening will start with the opportunity to tour the Cold War Museum whilst enjoying a pre-dinner drink. Guests will then be treated to a dinner, served under the wings of the magnificent Comet and Varsity aircrafts to the sounds of The AllStars - a 1940s-style swing band. |
